British Christmas Tree Growers Association

A CHRISTMAS tree grower from Gower has helped mark the official start of the festive season at Downing Street

Back in October, the British Christmas Tree Growers Association staged its annual event to find which grower would be responsible for Number 10’s main trees, and for the wreath to decorate its front door.

DowningStreet2014 012 a5c8bRob Morgan, from Three Crosses, beat off hundreds of members to win the honour of having his tree placed in the Pillared Room of the Prime Minister’s residence.

Last night, having had his tree delivered to Downing Street in advance, he attended the official lighting event alongside other winning members of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association.

Dozens of press photographers from around the world lined the street, while Christmas carols played. The Prime Minister and his wife Samantha appeared for the switch-on, then chatted to the specially invited audience.

Rob, who was accompanied by his wife and son, was personally introduced to the Prime Minister inside Number 10, and thanked for his efforts.

Also at last night’s event were Hereford winners Colin Griffith and Brian Taylor. All three were treated to a tour inside Downing Street.

Harry Brightwell, secretary of the British Christmas Tree Growers’ Association, said: “We were delighted to be able to attend Downing Street for this special event and in particular, to be welcomed inside Number 10 for an informative and fascinating tour.”
